Mr. Hockey Finalists Announced

The Minnesota Minute Men announced their Top Ten candidates for the 27th Annual Mr. Hockey Award.

In alphabetical order, they are: Josh Archibald (Brainerd), Ben Bahe, (Hill-Murray), Jon Brodzinski (Blaine), Tony Cameranesi (Wayzata), Patrick Daly (Benilde-St. Margaret’s), Max Everson (Edina), Steven Fogarty (Edina), Garrett Hendrickson (Virginia), Joe LaBate (Holy Angels) and Kyle Rau (Eden Prairie).

The Minute Men also announced the two finalists for the Frank Brimsek Award, given to the state’s top senior goaltender: Andrew Ford (Eden Prairie) and Alex Lyon (Lake of the Woods).

By my count, seven of those 12 players have committed to Division I schools: Archibald (Nebraska-Omaha), Cameranesi (UMD), Daly (Wisconsin), Everson (Harvard), Fogarty (Notre Dame), Hendrickson (St. Cloud) and Rau (Minnesota). Thanks to Sara for making note of Archibald going to UNO.

I have to imagine this is the first time that the Gophers have only had one recruit among the 10 finalists, although several players could commit there at any time. The last three Mr. Hockey winners attended Minnesota: Aaron Ness (2008), Nick Leddy (2009) and Nick Bjugstad (2010).

The Mr. Hockey Awards Banquet will be held at noon on Sunday, March 13 at the Grand Ballroom of RiverCentre. As always, it will follow State Championship Saturday at Xcel Energy Center.
