The Wild looks for its first road win on the season, tonight against the Calgary Flames. Minnesota went through its routine morning skate here at the Scotiabank Saddledome with no changes amongst the lines to report. Wild Head Coach Mike Yeo liked the look of the lineup in the team’s last outing against the Nashville Predators and wants the lines to build some chemistry.
Centering the top line and hitting a milestone tonight will be Mikko Koivu. The Wild captain will skate in his 500th NHL game. On the other end of the spectrum is his right-winger Charlie Coyle, who will play in just his fourth NHL game.
WildTV caught up to Minnesota’s captain after the morning skate and that video will be posted shortly. Koivu talked about what it means to hit the milestone as well as some of his memories while playing in a Wild sweater. WildTV videos from morning skate include, Head Coach Mike Yoe, forward Devin Setoguchi and defenseman Nate Prosser, which will all be online this afternoon.
Getting the start in goal will be Niklas Backstrom for the fifth-straight game.
The healthy scratches amongst the forwards will be Matt Kassian and Torrey Mitchell.
The defensive pairings will remain the same, so Marco Scandella will be tonight’s healthy scratch on the blue line. Jared Spurgeon participated in the team’s morning skate, but remains on Injured Reserve with a lower body injury. He looked pretty mobile out there today, but there is no timetable on his return.
A broadcast reminder, tonight’s matchup will air on FOX Sports North Plus. As always, the game will be broadcast across the radio waves on KFAN 100.3 FM or online at Wild.com. Follow @mnwildLIVE on twitter for live in-game updates and commentary.
