Since returning to the ice from a broken leg, Minnesota Wild prospect Mario Lucia has been on an absolute tear.
For the second-straight week, the University of Notre Dame freshman was named the CCHA Gongshow Rookie of the Week, helping the Irish sweep fellow Wild prospect John Draeger and the Michigan State Spartans in a two-game series.
On the weekend, the Plymouth resident scored a goal, chipped in with a pair of assists and was plus-1.
Lucia is amidst a four-game point streak, scoring four goals and two assists during the span. In eight games on the year, Lucia has eight points (5-3=8), with three of his five goals coming on the power play.
The Irish improved to 13-4-0 and 9-1-0-0 in CCHA action.
Lucia takes his final exams this week before traveling to Bowling Green on Saturday, December 15. The left wing will then attend Team USA’s World Junior Team training camp beginning on Dec. 16. If selected, he will represent the United States at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships in Ufa, Russia, Dec. 26-Jan. 5. He visited the PONDcast last week and talked about being picked for the selection camp.
