The Houston Aeros, the Minnesota Wild’s American Hockey League affiliate, hosts the Rockford IceHogs at Xcel Energy Center at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, and there will be a lot going on in the arena along with the hockey game. Here’s the skinny on all the happenings at the game.
Finals of Bud Light’s Search for the Next Paul Deutsch
Many fans around the State of Hockey have taken a keen interest in the team’s contest for its next emergency goalie: Bud Light’s Search for the Next Paul Deutsch. Well, yesterday Wild Goaltending Coach Bob Mason, Wild Television Analyst Mike Greenlay and Deutsch ran 11 goaltenders through a gamut of drills and shots. After about an hour and a half of drills on the ice, and a round of cold Bud Lights off it, the trio selected Treye Kettwick, 29, from Minneapolis and Josh Swartout, 24, from St. Louis Park, to compete for the honor of the Wild’s next emergency goalie. Kettwick and Swartout are set to face celebrity shooters Shjon Podein, Wes Walz, Brian Bonin and Tom Chorske during the second intermission of the game. WildTV was at the tryout and posted a video, here.
Movember Let’s Play Hockey Announcement
If you’re rockin’ a Movember ‘stache, and you get to the game early, you might be selected to give the customary “Let’s Play Hockey” announcement before the start of the game. Wild employees will be roaming the halls of Xcel Energy Center pre-game, looking for fans with fine moustaches to make the announcement. The Wild’s Movember efforts are presented by Sun Country Airlines.
Grab Bag and Banner Sale
Fans attending the game will have the opportunity to get a piece of Minnesota Wild/Houston Aeros history. The club is having a Grab Bag and Banner Sale, presented by Berger Transfer and Storage. It starts at 4 p.m., while supplies last, in Section 103. Items up for sale include: Autographed items from former Wild players; puck series from past Wild seasons; first-round draft pick series; Year 10 series; Top 5 Goals series; signed sweaters from current Aeros players; Wild banners that once hung in Xcel Energy Center; 2011 NHL Entry Draft street pole banners autographed by Jonas Brodin, Zack Phillips and Mario Lucia. Items are priced from $2 to $300 with proceeds benefiting the Minnesota Wild Foundation. Cash and credit cards will be accepted.
Toyota Food Drive
The Wild also will host the seventh annual Toyota Food Drive to benefit Second Harvest Heartland, the Upper Midwest’s largest hunger-relief organization. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and/or monetary donations to Gates 1, 2 and 5 on Nov. 18 starting at 4 p.m. and continuing through the start of the first period. For every $5 donated in the Minnesota Wild Toyota Food Drive, Second Harvest can provide 18 meals to the most vulnerable members of our community.
Finally, Houston Aeros players will sign autographs for fans following Sunday’s game. Autographs are free and will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the contest and last for 30 minutes. The autograph session is presented by BIC.
