FOX Sports North is re-airing classic Minnesota Wild games and tonight’s broadcast will feature a doozy. The Wild’s first home playoff victory, the 2003 Game 6 overtime win against the Colorado Avalanche, will air at 7 p.m. tonight on FOX Sports North.
It was a back-and-forth contest with the Wild on the brink of elimination, down in the series 3-2, in the club’s first playoff appearance. Nearly five minutes into overtime, Richard Park beat Patrick Roy through the 5-hole with a wrist shot from the right faceoff dot giving the Wild a 3-2 victory. It was Park’s second goal of the game.
The win would send the series back to Colorado for Game 7, which the Wild also won. The Avs came into the playoffs heavily favored and were the third seed in the Western Conference. However, the Wild came back from a series deficit of 3-1 to record the franchise’s first playoff series victory.
