Hello, from Pittsburgh, the site of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. After a short flight, the Lighthouse landed this afternoon, and the Steel City feels a lot like the State of Hockey in the summer – humid.
Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher and the Wild scouting staff are all in town and fired up for the weekend. The scouting staff is especially primed because this is their time to shine. The scouts are the road warriors of the organization, spending most of the hockey season scouring the globe for the next Wild prospects. The draft is the highpoint of the year for them and about the only time that they are in one city for an extended work stay. All the miles the scouting staff logs during the year has to be grueling, but the payoff for them is this weekend.
The Lighthouse will bring you updates from the draft, along with photos and other important info tinted with Iron Range Red glasses. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough time to make it to today’s ball hockey game with the draft prospects at the Clemente Bridge. However, we’ll have plenty of time to catch up with some of the top rated prospects and potential Wild picks tomorrow. In the mean time, you can check in with the Wild.com Draft Central to see more videos and stories surrounding the draft.
If you’re really jonesing, here is a look at the southwest side of CONSOL Energy Center dressed up in a little draft gear.
