With one game remaining in the season, the Wild has recalled two defensemen under emergency conditions. Kris Fredheim and Chay Genoway have been recalled from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL). Genoway will make his NHL debut and become the 47th player to skate for the Wild this season.
Fredheim appeared in two games with Minnesota earlier this season skating 10:13 in both contests, making his NHL debut against Colorado on Nov. 11. He has 12 points (3-9=12) including three power-play goals, 25 penalty minutes and a plus-2 rating in 69 games with Houston. Fredheim wears sweater number 59 with the Wild.
Genoway leads Aeros’ defensemen in scoring with 32 points (7-25=32) including five power-play goals and 29 PIM in 68 games. The 5-foot-9, 173-pound native of Morden, Manitoba collected 127 points (26-101=127) and a plus-48 rating in 168 games during his five-year career at the University of North Dakota (2006-11) where he was twice named an All-American and a four-time All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) selection. Genoway served as team captain his last two seasons. He graduated as the fourth-highest-scoring defenseman in UND history and his 168 games are tied for the most by a North Dakota defenseman. Genoway will wear sweater number 47 with the Wild.
