Minnesota hosts the Eastern Conference’s top team the New York Rangers, and there is plenty of news coming out of Wild camp.
Unfortunately we start with Matt Cullen, who underwent surgery on a broken finger today. Cullen broke the finger while blocking a shot against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday. This is another disappointing loss for the Wild in an injury-plagued season, and Cullen will be out for the rest of the year.
After missing two games, Niklas Backstrom will return to the lineup, but as a backup. Josh Harding will get the start. With Backstrom in the lineup, Matt Hackett has been reassigned to the Houston Aeros.
Justin Falk participated in the pre-game skate, his fist practice with the Wild since suffering a lower body injury on March 4. The injury has caused Falk to miss 8 games. However, he is still not ready to return to the lineup, but will be a full participant in practice moving forward.
Tonight marks the first time that Erik Christensen will face his old team since being acquired by the Wild, along with a conditional seventh round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, in exchange for Casey Wellman. Christensen said that getting traded from the Rangers was welcome since he wasn’t regularly in the lineup. Check out the Wild TV video of Christensen, here.
