The Minnesota Wild kicks off a three-game road trip tonight in Denver, where they’re preparing for blizzard conditions starting this afternoon. It’s always fun to be on the road when weather can pose a problem with travel, simply because PR lackey Ryan Stanzel gets discombobulated and looks like his head might explode.
But Stanzel says the team is getting out of Denver tonight, so wish us luck.
Hopefully the team will be in good spirits that a possible delay on the flight to Dallas tonight will be ignored. Head Coach Mike Yeo will use the same forward and defensive combos tonight, again stressing that other than the last 10 minutes on Tuesday, this group has played very well together over the last three games.
He also said that the way the team has played in those games is reminiscent of how the team was playing when it was rolling to the best record in the NHL.
“We need consistency right now,” said Yeo after today’s morning skate. “Consistency in the lineup certainly helps, knowing who you’re playing with. But most of all it’s consistency in our game.”
Yeo did say that he does not expect Mikko Koivu to play on Saturday night in Dallas. Koivu was on the ice today, and was skating hard with Mike Lundin, Brad Staubitz and Marek Zidlicky. Yeo said the team will likely wait until getting back to Minnesota on Sunday and then will make a decision in regards to the Columbus game next Tuesday.
Niklas Backstrom will get the start tonight.
