The Minnesota Wild will wrap up its pre-All-Star break schedule tonight when it faces the Colorado Avalanche in Denver. Obviously, this one’s a biggie.
The Wild can hop over Colorado and move into eighth place in the West with a win, but more importantly, can go in on a two-game win streak. The Wild hasn’t won two straight since its seven-game win streak ended back on December 13. A victory would also snap an 11-game road losing skid, and let’s face it, that needs to come to an end.
The same lineup from Saturday’s 5-2 win over Dallas will be in tonight with the exception of Nik Backstrom who will start in goal. Backstrom is 18-5-2 in his career against the Avs with three shutouts. Mike Lundin, Brad Staubitz and Marek Zidlicky will again be the scratches.
Thus far, we haven’t heard any news about Nick Johnson pulling out of All-Star Weekend. Now that Alex Ovechkin won’t be there, it’s just going to be more media spotlight on the soft-spoken Dartmouth boy.
The rest of the Wild players will scatter after tonight, with some going on vacation and some staying home with their families.
