Scandella Out With Concussion

Defenseman Marco Scandella has officially been diagnosed with a concussion and will not play tonight in Anaheim. It’s the second straight game that a key Wild player has sustained a concussion. Guillaume Latendresse suffered one against San Jose on Thursday and is currently back in the Twin Cities trying to recuperate.

Niklas Backstrom will get the start tonight with Josh Harding serving as backup. That means both goaltenders will travel with the team tomorrow, rather than one goalie flying ahead to Columbus to get settled prior to Tuesday’s game. Darcy Kuemper is expected to be reassigned to Ontario of the ECHL later tonight.

Tonight’s 7:00 start is a big one for the Wild, following the thumping sustained at the hands of the Los Angeles Kings last night. A win against the Ducks puts the Wild back at .500 for the road trip prior to meeting up with the last place Blue Jackets on Tuesday.
