Word out of San Jose is that Cal Clutterbuck will return to the lineup tonight after missing Tuesday’s win in Calgary with an upper body injury. Clutterbuck actually took warmups at the Saddledome before determining the pain was too great.
Nick Johnson, who was given a match penalty on Tuesday for an apparent head butt during a fight with Jarome Iginla, will also be in the lineup. Apparently the League reviewed the play and determined that if there was any contact, it certainly was not intentional, and therefore a suspension is not warranted.
With Clutterbuck and Johnson available, Warren Peters is expected to be the healthy scratch.
Niklas Backstrom will get the start in goal, looking to build off the 41-save shutout he posted against the Flames.
The big story tonight though, is the showdown between former Sharks Dany Heatley and Devin Setoguchi against former Wild players Brent Burns and Marty Havlat.
How great would it be if Heatley and Havlat drop the gloves right off the opening faceoff and go at it? How about if Setoguchi scores a goal and then glares up at the San Jose GM booth? Or, if Nick Schultz gets in a scrap with Burns, holds him down on the ice and cuts his hair so he can win their bet?
I’m not saying these things are guaranteed to happen. Just be on the lookout for them.
Puck drop is at 9:30 central time tonight so get your pregame naps in asap. Stay away from turkey and wine tonight as well. Eat lots of sugar and drink lots of Coca-Cola.
