The Wild has made a waiver wire pickup today, claiming right wing Nick Johnson from the Pittsburgh Penguins today. Johnson, a 25-year-old Dartmouth graduate, appeared in four games with Pittsburgh last season and posted a goal and two assists. He spent the majority of the season in Wilkes-Barre of the AHL where he noted 20 goals and 19 helpers in 48 games.
Johnson was Pittsburgh’s third round pick in 2004, and has played under Mike Yeo during a brief stint with the Penguins.
Yeo said Johnson has a very good chance to make the team, and he’s hoping the Calgary native can get to Columbus in time to crack tonight’s lineup. You can find Yeo’s comments on the pickup here.
