Mostly as a precautionary measure, defenseman Justin Falk and center Cody Almond were recalled from Houston this morning after they helped Houston to a win over Austin last night. The callups were made because Cam Barker, Matt Cullen and John Madden were dealing with minor injuries, but all three seem to be good to go.
The Wild is looking for another four-game win streak tonight, and it would be nice to keep the players that got them to this point. Knock on wood, but one thing that’s been noticeable is the Wild’s ability to stay healthy. Other than Marek Zidlicky’s shoulder injury and Marco Scandella’s concussion, the Wild has been staying out of the trainer’s room for the most part. It’s evident in the Wild’s record, but it’s also evident in Houston’s record.
The Aeros are 8-0-0-1 in their last nine and have won 11 of 14. It helps to have a lot of guys down there that are very close to cracking an NHL lineup. By the way, you can watch the Aeros in action a week from tomorrow at Xcel Energy Center. To find out more information on the game and how you can get Wild and Aero autographs, click here.
Niklas Backstrom will get the start between the pipes in front of about 100 Wild fans who will be in attendance tonight as part of the Wild Road Trip. The group gets in this afternoon and then will stay in the desert until Tuesday. Word is they’ll have an enjoyable Super Bowl bash at their hotel tomorrow while they watch the Pittsburgh Steelers whip up on the NFC’s sixth seed.
