Rest easy, Wild fans. Cal Clutterbuck will be in the lineup tonight despite missing yesterday’s practice with an upper body injury.
The lineup will be the same tonight as it was in Sunday’s win. That means Wild fans will get their first look at Marco Scandella, who really had an outstanding game in just his second NHL appearance on Sunday. Scandella skated a regular shift and finished with nearly 15 minutes of ice time with three hits and two blocked shots. He was tough and physical with the Lightning forwards, and he showed a very good first pass out of the zone.
Following today’s skate, Todd Richards had his own praise for a couple young players. He thought Robbie Earl was very good on Sunday, and he was. His speed was evident, and led to several opportunities. Richards was also asked about Casey Wellman, who has looked very impressive since joining the second line with Clutterbuck and Matt Cullen. Richards said he wasn’t where he was last year when he was first called up, but “since he’s been up the second time, he’s been better. What I find with his play, again with the speed and the quickness, able to break down defensive zone coverage…I think he’s taking steps in the right direction.”
Let’s hope the Wild doesn’t mind these stretches of three games in four nights.
That’s what they had last weekend, and another one starts tonight with the Ducks, a Friday game against Detroit and another home game against the Rangers.
Next week, they do it again with home games against Philadelphia and Nashville followed by a road game the next night at Colorado.
