Rau, Hackett Sent To Houston; Info On Draft Picks

To make room for three new players – Kurtis Foster, Nick Palmieri and Stephane Veilleux – the Minnesota Wild sent goaltender Matt Hackett and forward Chad Rau to Houston of the AHL today. The club assigned Carson McMillan to the Aeros yesterday.

All three of the newly acquired players will take part in the Wild’s morning skate on Sunday prior to the team hosting San Jose. The Wild has today off.

A couple notes on the draft picks the Wild acquired from the New Jersey Devils yesterday that weren’t mentioned in the Wild.com story yesterday.

The conditional third round pick in 2013 will be dependent on whether or not the Devils reach the Eastern Conference finals this spring. If the playoffs started today, New Jersey would have the fourth seed in the East and would face Philadelphia in the first round.

The second round pick the Wild acquired is actually the Washington Capitals’ second round pick. The Caps are currently not in the top eight in the East, so if everything ended today as is, that pick would likely be the 41st overall pick, or somewhere near there.

Remember, prior to yesterday, the Wild did not have a second round pick in this year’s upcoming Draft. The Wild included its 2012 second round pick in the trade with San Jose that brought Devin Setoguchi, Charlie Coyle and a first round pick (Zack Phillips) to the Wild.

The team also gave up its third round pick in 2013 to Philadelphia in exchange for Darroll Powe, but then got a third round pick back from San Jose in exchange for James Sheppard.
